Bryan W. Starnes ’87

Distinguished Alumni Award

Bryan Starnes is the chief financial officer at ALG Senior, an assisted living and operation management company with over 130 communities of 5,000 or more elderly residents located in seven southeastern states. He works diligently to ensure our state’s seniors receive high-quality care.

Previously, Bryan served as chief accounting officer at Meridian Senior Living and was a partner at Martin Starnes and Associates for 20 years. His measurable impact in the business, finance and governmental accounting industry helped set the course for many of today’s industry best practices, regulatory standards and academic curriculum. 

Bryan has provided leadership and accounting training for the American Institute of CPAs, the North Carolina Association of CPAs and various trade associations, as well as university continuing education programs. He has also served as a professional ethics instructor and adjunct professor at the UNC Chapel Hill School of Government.

Bryan founded and sits on the fiduciary board of Affinity Strong, a local non-profit that focuses on filling needs of front-line healthcare staff members throughout the southeast. He is also a strong supporter of 49er Athletics and our student-athletes.

Bryan earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Belk College of Business.
