Dr. Shabari Basu ’13

Shabari Basu is an accomplished business woman, scientist and engineer. She is an active member of not only the Florida corporate and UNC Charlotte communities, but of the larger global community finding sustainable sources of energy for humankind.

Shabari received her MBA from the Belk College Business in an unprecedented 1.5 years, while working full-time as a technical leader for Duke Energy. An inspiration to young professionals to improve themselves and the environment they are living in, she holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Space Sciences from California Institute of Technology. Shabari also received a bachelor’s degree in Physics from Delhi University.

Shabari is passionate about green energy and helping to ensure renewable energy projects are run profitably and efficiently. Shabari spent more than a decade at Duke Energy, where she served as a renewable energy executive, including as director of wind assessment for renewable energy, overseeing a team that supervised remote access and control of the company’s solar and wind farms and battery sites. In 2016, she led the review of more than 1,500 megawatts of wind and solar projects to provide cleaner energy for Duke Energy customers. She is fascinated by the change management aspect of getting people to adopt green energy practices.

Currently, Shabari serves as vice president of project development for NTE Energy, where she plays a key role in their growing renewable energy projects.

In 2017, she was honored with a Charlotte Business Journal 40 Under 40 award and was recognized with the Distinguished Young Alumni Award from the Belk College of Business. In 2016, she was named an honoree of the Charlotte Business Journal Women in Business awards.
