Dr. Tracy Rock ’91

Distinguished Faculty Award
Dr. Tracy Rock is a professor of reading and elementary education in the Cato College of Education. Her teaching and research interests include inquiry models of teacher professional development, social studies education and service learning. Tracy is a faculty fellow for the Center for Teaching and supervises the college teaching seminar teaching internship courses for doctoral students in the Curriculum and Instruction Ph.D. program.
Tracy is the recipient of several teaching awards including the Teaching Fellows Teaching Excellence Award, the Bank of America Award for Teaching Excellence and the Board of Governor’s Award for Teaching Excellence.
Tracy received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from UNC Charlotte, a master’s degree in liberal studies and a doctorate degree in curriculum and teaching, both from UNC Greensboro.
One of her former students said it best, “Dr. Rock has a heart for her students that is hard to find. Her welcoming smile at the start of every class, high expectations and feedback made her not only a better teacher but a better person. She instilled dignity on each and every student and met us where we were.”
