Eric Reichard ’89

Categories: 2017 Alumni Awards

The next time you survey the changing landscape of both UNC Charlotte and the City of Charlotte, consider the contributions of Eric Reichard. As Chief Operations Officer of Rodgers Builders, Eric has led a number of UNC Charlotte’s most impressive additions, including the UNC Charlotte Center City Building, Jerry Richardson Stadium and, most recently, Levine Hall.

Eric has also joined the list of alumni who have made immense contributions to the city of Charlotte, leading projects that include BB&T Ballpark, Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, Mint Museum, Knight Theater, Billy Graham Library, First Ward Park, and the U.S. National Whitewater Center. He also oversaw expansions to both Bank of America Stadium and Discovery Place Museum.

“The opportunity to truly make a difference in our community and in our professional career is something we all strive for, but so few of us accomplish,” says J. Carton Showalter, President of Showalter Construction Company. “Eric has clearly demonstrated unparalleled service to the Charlotte community and made significant achievements in his professional career.”

Eric chose to attend UNC Charlotte to follow his highschool sweetheart – and now wife of 28 years – Shannon. “That’s probably not the most sound strategy,” he admits, but one that has worked out quite well for both himself and the University. Initially intending to be an architect, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering before pursuing a career as a Licensed Professional Engineer and LEED Accredited Professional.

When expanding programs within the Belk College of Business, Eric became the top candidate for a Construction Management lecturer due to his depth of experience, relatability, and genuine passion for construction management and real estate. In 2014, he began as an adjunct professor for Construction Fundamentals, and also participates in the Childress Klein Center for Real Estate’s mentorship for Master of Science in Real Estate.

Eric truly embodies what it means to live as a 49er. He has been an immensely dedicated supporter of the University’s Athletic Department, not only overseeing the construction of Jerry Richardson Stadium, but additionally serving as the President and Chairman of the Charlotte 49ers Athletic Foundation Board.

After rolling off the board, he worked closely with Judy Rose to sell the most Football Seat Licenses for the new Football Complex as it was being built, even reconnecting with his college roommate in the process. Says Rose, “Eric’s tireless efforts and ability to rally others to support UNC Charlotte is unmatched.”
