Terrell Blackmon ’89

-With over 25 years of experience in local government and the nonprofit and private sectors, Terrell has dedicated his career to public service, economic development and community building.

Terrell currently serves as an Assistant City Manager for the City of Jacksonville, North Carolina. He has vast experience in working for solutions in affordable housing, economic development, budget development and land-use planning. Prior to his current role, Terrell served as the city manager in Henderson, North Carolina, where he led efforts to complete a $100 million expansion of the city’s water system. 

His commitment to community service extends to his previous roles, including Executive Director of the Greater Matthews Habitat for Humanity, where he secured over $500,000 in grants to support affordable housing.

Beyond his exemplary professional accomplishments, Terrell’s contributions to UNC Charlotte are equally significant. As former president of the Black Alumni Chapter and co-founder of the Vaught Blackmon Endowed Scholarship, Terrell has worked tirelessly to support the next generation of alumni leaders.
