Bob Qutub ’88
Distinguished Alumnus Award
Prior to attending UNC Charlotte, Bob Qutub served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Corporal for three years. While attending UNC Charlotte, he received the Frank R. and Sara Griffith Rayburn Scholarship, which helped support his studies and later would inspire him to give back. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the university in 1988.
Qutub has been the Chief Financial Officer for RenaissanceRe since August of 2016, after retiring from MSCI Inc. as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer. He also worked at Bank of America for 18 years, where he held several segment chief financial officer roles including Global Consumer and Business Banking, Global Banking and Markets and Global Wealth Management. Qutub also worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers for
six years.
“With his experience, commitment to diversity and record of leadership, Bob is a role model for future 49er alumni leaders,” says Steve Ott, Dean of the Belk College of Business at UNC Charlotte. “He indeed brings honor to his profession and his alma mater.”
Qutub has been a vital leader and supporter of UNC Charlotte. He is chair of the Belk College Accounting Advisory Board, serves on the Foundation Board of Directors, the Belk College Board of Advisors and previously served on the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors. His generosity has made an impact on a variety of campus programs including the Turner School of Accountancy, the Belk College of Business
and Athletics.
A veteran himself, Bob has been a supporter and friend to student veterans at UNC Charlotte. He made a generous matching gift to the crowdfunding campaign to send 49er veterans to a Student Veterans of America Conference, established an endowment to help student veterans afford books and provided financial assistance for a veterans lounge on campus.
“Bob is an excellent representative for the University,” said Bill Wilson, Director of Veteran Services at UNC Charlotte. “While finding great success in the business world, he has been a continuous supporter of our campus veteran population, as well as the Turner School of Accountancy and the Belk College of Business.”
In addition to his support for student veterans, he has endowed a graduate assistantship in Disability Services named in honor of his nephew, Garrett A. Burgess, who suffered a spinal cord injury at a young age. Inspired by the scholarship he received as a student, he also endowed two merit and need-based scholarships – one for accounting students and one for students in the Belk College of Business.
